September is officially behind us, but before we look forward to what October has to bring, let’s reflect on what September gave us. The transition from summer warmth to the cool of fall reminded us of how life comes with its own transitions that we should prepare to take on. Below is a list of resources to help you reflect not only on what matters most to you about living and the quality of life you seek to have through the end of life but how to spark those conversations with those that matter most to you.
New Resources
Are you one of the hundreds of groups preparing to participate in Conversation Sabbath between October 24th and November 3rd? Are you looking for ideas on where to start (or what Conversation Sabbath is all about)? Or, maybe you’ve participated in the past and are looking for new inspiration and ideas? Well, we have you covered. Check out the resources in this piece to support you in preparing for this year’s Conversation Sabbath and/or for sharing with others who you’d like to join you along the way!
The Conversation Project (TCP)’s ambitious mission is to ensure everyone’s wishes for the care they want to receive through the end-of-life are expressed and respected. And, we are not alone. We are humbled to be connected with and learning from thousands of communities across the US and globally who are championing this cause. Looking for creative ways to reach people in your community? Check out these ideas from some of our fabulous TCP Champions who are reaching people where they live, work and pray.
Community Calls
- This past September, we hosted a virtual speaker training. This call provided TCP community leaders with the knowledge and resources needed to host an event, give an informative presentation, and facilitate group discussion. They were given an example of a standard presentation, tips on all phases of event-planning including setting an aim, organization, facilitation, establishing measures, and evaluating their event. Click here to access the slides and recording from the call.
- Upcoming Community Calls
- On October 16th at 3 PM ET we will host a call that will highlight various models for starting and sustaining programs to spread the importance of conversations across a community. We’ll hear from seasoned community members and together explore various components to keep the momentum going, including funding. Join us and share what you’ve learned or ideas you have to keep the momentum going in your community.

- Are you grappling with how best to support those who may not have family or a support system around them? Or are you reaching “solo agers” and have some ideas to share on how best to ensure this population is supported, listened to and given opportunities to talk about what matters most to them? Then this call is for you! Join us on November 20th at 3 PM ET to discuss ways to ensure this critical segment of the population is not left behind. We’ll be joined by Carol Marak, a solo ager who created an expansive support network for others and has learned some fabulous lessons along the way.
