A proposed rule permitting the government to reimburse doctors for talking to patients about how they want to live their final days has re-emerged to decidedly less furor than when opponents tied it to “death panels” during debate over President Barack Obama’s health care law.
But while visions of the elderly being marched before judges holding the power of life or death may have subsided, other opponents still have concerns about the measure, which they believe could nudge patients away from their desired care and toward end-of-life decisions that are less expensive for the government.
