Freeing and comforting to know that his wishes were honored

I had the conversation with my parent.

My Dad told us many times that when the time comes, do not connect me to any machines, let me go, because if you connect me to machines I will have to die twice.
My father Roy Bratton passed away on July 12, 2012, with his family around him, he was 88 years old. My Dad told us many times that when the time comes, do not connect me to any machines, let me go,because if you connect me to machines I will have to die twice.

My father lived alone at home until he was 87, in the last year of his life my sibling and I had to revisit that conversation many times and as painful as it was to see him go , I think for all seven of us it was very freeing and comforting to know that his wishes were honored.

During his illness, we each had mixed feeling about his decision but at the end it was the greatest gift that he gave to us, because we new it was exactly what he wanted.
