Houses of Worship Open Doors and Arms to Welcome Conversation Sabbath

By Reverend Rosemary Lloyd, 11/17/2015

The message throughout Conversation Sabbath was clear: it is essential, compassionate and generous to talk about our wishes for end-of-life care with our loved ones and care providers.

In congregations throughout Greater Boston and beyond, we heard that The Conversation is a gift we can give to our families and friends, our doctors and nurses, and our wider communities.

At Conversation Sabbath, people gathered to celebrate and worship in churches and synagogues and temples, to sing and dance, to pray and meditate as they do week after week—with a twist: this time they courageously welcomed encouragement from their spiritual leaders and support from one another to reflect on what matters most at the end of life.

Some beautiful takeaways from our celebration: when we talk about what matters most, we are sharing more than our thoughts and concerns about medical treatments. We are sharing who we are, who and what we love, what we value about living, and what legacy we hope to leave our loved ones and our communities. We are talking about grounding ourselves in our values and faith to live our best lives everyday.

If your community participated in Conversation Sabbath but didn’t register in advance, please let us know by filling in this simple form: http://bit.ly/1UqhqiJ

And if you have photos or sermons or media coverage from you event, please be in touch to share with us.

From all of us at The Conversation Project, to everyone who shared the work and tools and mission of The Conversation Project during Conversation Sabbath – Thank You!

The work of more than 40 faith communities in Greater Boston and beyond was noticed and reported on in various media, including the Huffington Post and Radio Boston. If you missed any of the great coverage please read on below and share with friends and members of clergy.
